Heat-clearing medicine
Any medicine that has the main effect of clearing heat and relieving interior heat, and is commonly used to treat interior heat is called heat-clearing medicine.
This type of medicine is cold in nature and settles into the interior. The heat-clearing medicine can clear away the heat in the interior through different functions such as clearing heat and purging fire, clearing heat and dampness, clearing heat and detoxification, clearing heat and cooling blood, and clearing deficiency heat. That is, the principle of "treating heat with cold medicine" in "Shen Nong's Materia Medica" in "Neijing".
Heat-clearing medicines are mainly used to treat febrile diseases with high fever and polydipsia, syndromes of excess heat in the lungs, stomach, heart, liver and other viscera, damp-heat diarrhea, damp-heat jaundice, warm-toxin spots, carbuncle sores and swollen toxins, and fever due to yin deficiency.
When using heat-clearing medicines, it is necessary to distinguish the deficiency and excess of heat syndrome.
Most of these medicines have cold and cool properties, which can easily damage the spleen and stomach, so those with weak spleen and stomach, less food and loose stools should be used with caution. Bitter and cold medicines tend to transform dryness and impair yin, and should be used with caution in patients with febrile disease impairing yin or yin deficiency and fluid loss. Heat-clearing medicines are contraindicated in syndromes of excess of yin and excess of yang or true cold and false heat.
According to the differences in properties, efficacy and indications of heat-clearing medicines, heat-clearing medicines can be divided into five categories: heat-clearing and purging medicines, heat-clearing and damp-drying medicines, heat-clearing and detoxifying medicines, heat-clearing and blood-cooling medicines, and deficiency-heat medicines.
Heat-clearing and blood-cooling medicine
The nature and flavor of this kind of medicine are mostly sweet, bitter and cold or salty and cold, and they penetrate into the blood part to clear away heat, mostly return to the heart and liver meridian, and have the effect of clearing the nutrient part and the heat evil in the blood part. It is mainly used for excess heat syndromes such as nutrient and blood components. It can also be used for blood heat and bleeding syndrome in internal injuries and miscellaneous diseases. If both qi and blood are burnt (fán), it can be used together with heat-clearing and gunpowder medicine to clear both qi and blood.
Moutan bark
It was first recorded in "Shen Nong's Materia Medica".
This product is the dry root bark of the Ranunculaceae plant peony. The gas is fragrant, the taste is slightly bitter and astringent. It is better to have thick skin, white cut flour, enough powder, and strong aroma. Used raw or roasted with wine.

This product is bitter and cold, enters the heart, liver and blood, and is good at clearing away excess heat in the nutrient and blood.
2. Warming pathogens and harming yin, yin deficiency and fever, night heat and morning cool, no sweat and bone steam
This product is bitter, pungent and cold in nature, enters the blood system and is good at clearing the latent heat of the yin system, and is an important medicine for treating no sweat bone steam.
3. Blood stagnation, amenorrhea, dysmenorrhea, pain from falling
This product is pungent and bitter, and has the effect of promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis.
4. Carbuncle sore
This product is bitter and cold, clears away heat and cools blood, and is good at dispelling blood stasis and eliminating carbuncle.
[Usage and Dosage] Decoction, 6~12g. It should be used raw for clearing heat and cooling blood, roasted with wine for promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis, and fried with charcoal for stopping bleeding.
【Cautions】It is not suitable for people with blood deficiency and cold, menorrhagia. Pregnant women use with caution.
