[Chinese Medicine] learning experience (71) Evodia decoction
The notes I compiled are based on the textbook "Prescriptions" of the University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and some prescriptions that I think are good. The prescriptions written are all my personal experience, and the analysis methods are mainly based on the six meridians and the viscera. I am not a medical professional, studying medicine is purely a hobby. It is normal if there are mistakes in the text.

【Function】Warming middle-JIAO tonifying deficiency, lowering adverse flow and relieving vomiting.

【Indications】

1. Stomach cold and vomiting syndrome. Nausea after eating, or combined with epigastric pain, sour regurgitation and noisy, pale tongue, deep and stringy pulse.

2. Liver-cold upper-adverse syndrome. Dry vomiting, saliva, headache, extreme pain in the top, pale tongue, deep and stringy pulse.

3. Kidney-cold Shangni syndrome. Nausea, vomiting, cold hands and feet, irritability, pale tongue, deep and thready pulse.

Evodia rutaecarpa, bitter in taste, hot in nature, slightly poisonous, returns to Liver, Spleen and Stomach Meridian. The main functions are to warm the middle-medium, dispel cold, relieve stagnation, and dry dampness.

Evodia decoction is a more clinical prescription. Suppose you ask a student of a university of traditional Chinese medicine: "What does Evodia decoction treat?" The few articles in "Treatise on Febrile Diseases" and "Synopsis of the Golden Chamber" that involve this prescription are memorized by heart. But if you ask him: "When would you use Evodia decoction?" He will probably think about it, and then tell you: "When treating a headache."

I don't know when, Evodia decoction became a special prescription for headache. People with stomach cold and vomiting first think of Lizhong Decoction and Fuzi Lizhong Decoction, those with kidney cold first think of Sini Decoction, liver cold... It seems that many doctors can't figure out why the liver is cold. A doctor once said that the liver cold caused by kidney cold, that is, "mother's disease affects the child". I asked: "Shouldn't the cold in the kidney be the fire of the dragon and thunder leaping upwards, and the phase fire in the liver moves recklessly?" The other party was speechless. In fact, clinically, coldness in the kidney often causes coldness in the spleen rather than coldness in the liver.

The liver is not Huode Zhenjun, of course there is a time for cold. Let's take the simplest example: many young girls like to wear pants with ankles exposed, and the "Sanyinjiao point" is exposed outside the clothes. If her working or studying environment happens to be very cold or the temperature of the air conditioner is very low, the cold air will enter the liver meridian along the Sanyinjiao point, and the liver meridian will catch cold. The symptoms are cold legs, cold pain in the lower abdomen, and dysmenorrhea. The Liver Meridian of Foot Jueyin is connected to the top of the head, so it can cause headaches. If left untreated, prolonged illness will lead to deficiency, leading to deficiency of liver yang, which can be seen in various symptoms such as skin loss, vaginal discharge, late menstruation, dripping endlessly, uterine cold infertility, and emotional disturbance.

Therefore, in the prescription, ginseng is used to nourish the temperature and yang, Evodia rutaecarpa is used to warm the yang and dispel cold, ginger is used to warm the middle and dispel cold, and jujube is used to nourish deficiency. The vomiting here is caused by stomach cold. Evodia and ginger both have the effect of warming the stomach, so they can cure vomiting.

As for headaches, 70% are caused by cold pathogens attacking the head and causing vasoconstriction.
