[Chinese Medicine] learning experience (55) Pulsatilla Soup

The notes I compiled are based on the textbook "Prescriptions" of the University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and some prescriptions that I think are good. The prescriptions written are all my personal experience, and the analysis methods are mainly based on the six meridians and the viscera. (55) Pulsatilla Soup

【Category】Zang-Fu heat agent

【Composition】Pulsatilla two-two (15g), Phellodendron three-two (9g), Coptis three-two (9g), Qinpi three-two (9g)

【Usage】Apply four herbs, take seven liters of water, boil two liters, remove the water, and take one liter warm, if it does not heal, take another one liter (modern usage: decoct in water).

【Function】clearing heat and detoxifying, cooling blood and stopping dysentery.

【Indications】pyretic dysentery. Diarrhea with pus and blood, more red than white, abdominal pain, tenesmus, burning anus, thirst for water, red tongue with yellow coating, rapid pulse.

This formula is relatively simple and easy to understand. The four herbs in the prescription are all cold in nature, so they treat fever. Pulsatillae enters the large intestine, liver, and stomach meridian. It has the effect of clearing away heat and cooling blood, and detoxifying. Coptis chinensis enters the heart, liver, stomach, and large intestine meridian, and its main function is to clear away heat and dampness. Cortex Phellodendri has the effects of drying dampness, purging fire, and detoxifying. Good at treating dysentery, diarrhea, thirst, jaundice, turbid stranguria, hemorrhoids, blood in the stool, red and white discharge, bone steaming and labor heat, red eyes and swelling pain, sores on the mouth and tongue, sores and swelling. Qinpi has the effects of clearing away heat and dampness, relieving asthma and relieving cough, and improving eyesight. Good at treating bacillary dysentery, enteritis, leucorrhea, intestinal wind and blood.

The combination of the above medicines can treat dysentery and blood in the stool caused by intestinal dampness and heat. And Pulsatilla can enter the blood system, and has the effect of cooling blood and stopping bleeding.

If the patient with this syndrome has both Yin and blood damage, add licorice and donkey-hide gelatin to make "Pulsatilla plus licorice and donkey-hide gelatin decoction", which is mainly used for the treatment of Pulsatilla decoction syndrome and blood deficiency syndrome.

An example of a medical case extracted from the Internet:

Patient, female, 60 years old. Dysentery is red and white, dozens of times a day, tenesmus. Once served "nitrofurazone" for 2 days, the effect was not obvious. Acute diagnosis: low fever, dry mouth, not thirsty, light red tongue, small red spots on the edge of the tongue, dry without fluid, pulse condition breakdown. This is because the elderly suffer from insufficient body fluid and blood, and suffer from febrile dysentery, and the body fluid and blood are more likely to be consumed. It is a decoction of pulsatilla plus licorice and donkey-hide gelatin:

Pulsatilla 12g, Coptidis 6g, Phellodendron 6g, Qinpi 9g, donkey-hide gelatin 9g (smelling), licorice 6g.

Decoct to 200ml, take 2 times. Take the first dose in the morning, and the stool has hardened by the end of the day, and you will be cured after taking another dose.
