Heat-clearing medicine
Any medicine that has the main effect of clearing heat and relieving interior heat, and is commonly used to treat interior heat is called heat-clearing medicine.
This type of medicine is cold in nature and settles into the interior. The heat-clearing medicine can clear away the heat in the interior through different functions such as clearing heat and purging fire, clearing heat and dampness, clearing heat and detoxification, clearing heat and cooling blood, and clearing deficiency heat. That is, the principle of "treating heat with cold medicine" in "Shen Nong's Materia Medica" in "Neijing".
Heat-clearing medicines are mainly used to treat febrile diseases with high fever and polydipsia, syndromes of excess heat in the lungs, stomach, heart, liver and other viscera, damp-heat diarrhea, damp-heat jaundice, warm-toxin spots, carbuncle sores and swollen toxins, and fever due to yin deficiency.
When using heat-clearing medicines, it is necessary to distinguish the deficiency and excess of heat syndrome.
Most of these medicines have cold and cool properties, which can easily damage the spleen and stomach, so those with weak spleen and stomach, less food and loose stools should be used with caution. Bitter and cold medicines tend to transform dryness and impair yin, and should be used with caution in patients with febrile disease impairing yin or yin deficiency and fluid loss. Heat-clearing medicines are contraindicated in syndromes of excess of yin and excess of yang or true cold and false heat.
According to the differences in properties, efficacy and indications of heat-clearing medicines, heat-clearing medicines can be divided into five categories: heat-clearing and purging medicines, heat-clearing and damp-drying medicines, heat-clearing and detoxifying medicines, heat-clearing and blood-cooling medicines, and deficiency-heat medicines.
Heat-clearing and detoxifying medicine
The nature and flavor of this kind of medicine are mostly bitter and cold, and the main function is to clear away heat and detoxify. Indications for various heat-toxin syndromes, such as sores, carbuncles, furuncles, erysipelas, febrile plaques, sore throat, mumps, diarrhea due to heat-toxins, insect bites, cancer, burns, etc.
This type of medicine is cold and cool in nature, easily injures the spleen and stomach, and will stop the disease immediately, so it should not be taken too much.

1. Boils and carbuncles, sore throat, snake bites
This product is bitter and cold, good at clearing away heat and detoxification, reducing swelling and relieving pain, and is a commonly used medicine for treating carbuncle, furunculosis and snake bites. To treat carbuncle, swollen and furunculosis, it can be used alone as powder, mixed with vinegar and applied externally; to treat snake bites, redness, swelling and pain, this product can be used alone for oral administration or external application, or together with lobelia and other antisnake poisons.
2. Pain from a fall
This product enters the blood system of the liver meridian, can reduce swelling and relieve pain, remove blood stasis and stop bleeding, treat bruises, stasis, swelling and pain, and traumatic bleeding. It can be used alone or mixed with other medicines.
3. Convulsions
The bitter cold of this product enters the liver meridian, and has the functions of cooling the liver and purging fire, relieving wind and relieving convulsion. To treat children with extremely hot wind and tetany, use this product alone or mix it with other medicines.
