Cupping | Some things you must know before doing cupping
We talked about various types of tanks before, so according to the different types of tanks, what are the commonly used suction and extraction methods?

First of all, the most commonly used method is the cupping method, that is, the suction and pulling method that uses the burning fire to discharge the air in the tank to form a negative pressure, and adsorb the tank to the body surface. Including the following:

♣ Flash Fire

Use tweezers to hold the ethanol cotton ball (the concentration of ethanol should be high, the alcohol cotton ball with a concentration of 95% can be used), hold the bottom of the jar with one hand, put the cotton ball into the jar immediately after being ignited, then exit after flashing fire, and quickly buckle the jar in the The part that should be pulled out. This method is suitable for all parts of the body, and it is not easy to burn the skin, the most common. However, it should be noted that the amount of ethanol dipped should be less, so as not to scald the skin by sticking to the mouth of the tank or dripping.

♣ Throwing Fire

Put the ethanol cotton ball or folded soft paper on fire and put it into the tank, and when the fire is hot, quickly buckle the tank on the part that should be pulled out. In the previous article, my grandma used this method to cupping for her family. In this method, the combustibles in the tank are easy to fall and burn the skin, so it is mostly used for lateral cupping on the side of the body.

♣ Cotton patch method

Dip a thin piece of absorbent cotton with a diameter of 1-2 cm dipped in ethanol and stick it on the inner wall of the tank. After lighting it, quickly buckle the tank on the suction part. This method is also used for lateral cupping on the side of the body. The amount of ethanol dipped in the operation must be appropriate, because too much or too little will easily cause the cotton sheet to fall, and too much ethanol will easily flow on the mouth of the tank and burn the skin.

♣ Arrest

Put the bakelite bottle cap or thin noodle cake, or the corresponding Chinese medicine decoction pieces selected according to the condition on the suction part, and put an ethanol cotton ball on it, and quickly suck the jar on the part after lighting it. This method is not easy to burn the skin and is suitable for thick and flat muscles.

There is also the water tank method, that is, the method of cupping by using the gas to expand when heated to expel the air in the tank.

♣ boiled method

Put the bamboo pot into water or liquid medicine and boil for 2~3 minutes, then use tweezers to hold the pot upside down, and quickly cover the mouth of the pot with a dry towel for a while to absorb the water in the pot and lower the temperature of the pot mouth, then Buckle the can on the suction part while it is hot, and press the can lightly for about half a minute to make it suck firmly. This method has a strong warming effect, and can be combined with potting and medicine, and is suitable for any part. But the operation speed should be timely, otherwise the cupping is too early, and the mouth of the cup will be overheated and easily burn the skin, and if it is too slow, it will easily lead to insufficient suction.

♣ steam method

Boil water or liquid medicine in a small kettle. When water vapor is sprayed out from the spout, insert the spout into the pot for 2-3 minutes, take it out, fasten the pot on the suction part and press the pot body for half a minute. Make it suck.

♣ Air pumping method

Adjust the valve at the bottom end, and use the cupping device to draw out the air for cupping. This method is applied to the exhaust pipe.

♣ Squeeze method

Fix the mouth of the can on the treatment site, squeeze the can body to discharge the gas in the can and apply the can. This method is applied to rubber tanks.

After mastering different methods of suction and pulling, let's start cupping~

First of all, we need to choose the appropriate body position and tank specifications according to the condition or operation requirements. Fully expose the parts that should be pulled out, and those with hair should be shaved off. The local skin and utensils should be disinfected before cupping (the skin can be disinfected with 75% alcohol cotton balls) to prevent cross-infection.

When cupping, the movement should be light, fast, steady and accurate, and the distance between the cups should be well controlled. If it is too far away, the curative effect will be affected, and if it is too close, the cups will easily fall off.

After the treatment effect is achieved, the can can be opened. When taking the can, hold the bottom of the can with one hand and tilt slightly, and press the skin on the edge of the can mouth with the thumb or index finger of the other hand to form a gap between the can mouth and the skin, and the can will naturally It's down.

After removing the can, we will see that there are can marks of different colors on the body surface. What do the different marks represent?

The most common spot-like purple-red petechiae may be accompanied by a slight heat pain. These are normal reactions and will disappear on their own after 1 to 2 days.

Do you still remember the pot print on Phelps' shoulder at the Rio Olympics? At that time, we were still joking in the circle of friends that Phelps was very humid.

So what kind of pot printing is a pathological reaction?

Generally speaking, bright red color is more common in yang syndrome, excess syndrome, and heat syndrome; dark red color is more common in yin syndrome, blood stasis, and cold syndrome. Canned spots are flushed or lavender, and show blisters, water drops, or water vapor, indicating excessive dampness or cold dampness; if the water vapor is yellow in color, it is damp and hot; red or black blisters indicate chronic illness and excessive dampness and blood stasis; canned spots are dark purple, It indicates that there is blood stasis in the body; there is no change in the skin color of the pot spot, and it is not wet to the touch, and it is mostly a syndrome of deficiency and cold; the pot spot is slightly itchy or has skin lines, which is mostly caused by wind pathogens; there is no change in the pot spot, indicating that the condition is still mild, or Close to recovery. However, the reactions mentioned above should be comprehensively analyzed in combination with specific clinical conditions.

Next, let's talk about the method of cupping:

♣ Single tank method

That is, one can for single use. This method is applied to diseases with clear lesion sites, limited range, or fixed tender points, such as pulling Zhongwan point for stomach pain, pulling Ashi point for soft tissue injury, and pulling poison at insect bites, etc.

♣ Multi-tank method

That is, multiple cans are used together. It is suitable for diseases with a wide range of lesions or a large number of acupoints. According to the disease and anatomical characteristics, cupping cans can be performed on multiple parts or acupoints for several to a dozen cups. For example, along the body surface of a certain meridian or a certain muscle bundle, arranging multiple cans for suction and pulling in a row in order is also called the canning method. It is mostly used for diseases such as neuromuscular pain or old soft tissue injury. Note that the spacing between the tanks should be appropriate, depending on the condition and physique.

♣ Keep tank method

Also known as sitting pot method. Leave the cupping on for 5-15 minutes after cupping. This method is the most commonly used clinically, and it is mostly used for various clinical diseases such as neck, shoulder, waist, leg pain, and joint disease. The length of time to keep the tank should be determined based on the patient's reaction and physical fitness. The time for the skin to be thin, the elderly and children should not be too long.

♣ Flash tank method

Use the flash fire method to suck out the glass jar and the part that should be pulled out, then take it off immediately, then suck it out, take it off again, and repeatedly suck it out until the skin flushes. It is often applied to parts of the cupping that are uneven, easy to fall off, or on the face. It is used to treat diseases such as rheumatic arthralgia and sequelae of stroke.

♣ Canning method

It is also called pushing cupping method, pulling cupping method, and meridian cupping method, and is more commonly used in clinic. First apply a proper amount of lubricant (Vaseline or moisturizer can be used instead) on the potting site. After suctioning with the flash fire method, hold the bottom of the tank with your hand, tilt it slightly, and push and pull the tank along the muscle and muscle line with a little force, lift the tank slightly in the forward direction, focus on the rear, and repeat the operation until the skin in the tank area is purple Blood stasis is the degree. This method is suitable for areas with extensive lesions and thick muscles. It can be used to treat acute fever, rheumatic arthralgia and other diseases. Pay attention to take the can immediately after suction, otherwise it will be difficult to take the can after suction. The canning movement should be gentle, and the force should be even, steady and slow. It is advisable that the pressure in the tank should be pushed and pulled smoothly. If it is too large, it will cause pain to the patient. If it is too small, it will easily fall off and the treatment effect will be poor.

Well, after reading this, we have fully mastered the operation method of cupping ~ but what else should we pay attention to?

When cupping, the room should be spacious and bright with good air circulation. In order to avoid being blown by the wind, you can cover it with light clothing after cupping.

During cupping, if dizziness, nausea, vomiting, pale complexion, cold sweat, etc. occur, the cupping should be removed immediately and the patient should lie down and rest.

When the cupping time is too long, burns or blisters occur due to too much suction, gentian violet can be applied first and then covered with gauze for fixation. If the blister is too large, the liquid in the blister can be drawn out with a syringe first, and then fixed with sterile gauze.

Now, we can safely and boldly cupping~
