[Chinese Medicine] learning experience(69) Xiaojianzhong Decoction
The notes I compiled are based on the textbook "Prescriptions" of the University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and some prescriptions that I think are good. The prescriptions written are all my personal experience, and the analysis methods are mainly based on the six meridians and the viscera. I am not a medical professional, studying medicine is purely a hobby. It is normal if there are mistakes in the text.

(69) Xiaojianzhong Soup
[Source] "Treatise on Febrile Diseases"

[Category] Warming and dispelling cold agent (warming and tonifying agent)

[Ingredients] Three Liangs of Guizhi (9g), Two Liangs of Roasted Licorice (6g), Twelve Jujubes (4 pieces), Six Liangs of Peony (18g), Three Liangs of Ginger (9g), One Liter of Glutinous Sugar (30g)

【Usage】Use six flavors, boil three liters with seven liters of water, remove the dregs, remove the glutinous rice, and put it on a low heat to dissolve. Take warm for one liter, take three times a day (modern usage: decoct in water to get juice, add maltose, heat to melt with slow fire, and take warm twice a day).

【Function】Warming the middle-JIA to invigorate deficiency, harmonize the internal urgency.

[Indications] Deficiency and coldness in the middle energizer, liver and spleen disorders, syndrome of disharmony between yin and yang. Acute pain in the epigastrium and abdomen, which comes and goes from time to time, likes warm pressing, fatigue, lack of energy; or throbbing in the heart, restlessness, and dull complexion; or sees restless hands and feet, dry throat and mouth. Pale tongue with white fur, thready and stringy pulse.

The university textbook "Prescriptions" is indeed a bit refined. It classifies Xiaojianzhong Decoction as a warming and dispelling cold medicine, and later introduced Xiaojianzhong Decoction as a prescription for warming the middle and tonifying deficiency. Personally, I think it should belong to the warming tonic.

Excess cold is different from deficiency cold. Excess cold requires dispelling cold, and deficiency cold requires warming. If you use anti-cold medicine to replenish deficiency and cold, it is equivalent to picking teeth with military thorns and lighting cigarettes with muskets.

Deficiency and cold, deficiency and no heat, should be treated with warming and tonic. Therefore, use cinnamon sticks, licorice, jujube, and ginger to warm the spleen; white peony root, licorice, and maltose to relieve pain. The liver dominates pain, and the pain is due to ischemia of the liver meridian. The liver suffers from anxiety, so eating it quickly will relieve it, so a large dose of caramel should be used. Guizhi, licorice, and jujube also have the effect of tonifying deficiency.

Xiaojianzhong Decoction can only treat the mildest abdominal pain caused by deficiency and cold in the middle Jiao. Why do some people say that the effect of this prescription is not obvious? It is because the disease is serious and the medicine is light. If the patient has severe qi deficiency, add Astragalus, that is, Huangqi Jianzhong Decoction; if the patient has severe blood deficiency, add Danggui, that is, Danggui Jianzhong Decoction; Astragalus and angelica can be added at the same time; for those with yang deficiency and cold, add aconite and dried ginger; for those with severe dampness, add poria cocos and Alisma.

Because Guizhi has the effect of warming and dredging the meridians, Xiaojianzhong Decoction also has the effect of warming and tonifying the meridians for deficiencies and coldness. When combined with appropriate meridian-introducing medicines, Xiaojianzhong Decoction can exert unexpected effects. Such as cough caused by lung deficiency and cold, can be treated with Xiaojianzhong decoction plus Qianhu, Baiqian, coltsfoot, and aster.

There are rumors in the rivers and lakes that Xiaojianzhong decoction is very effective in treating hepatitis B after modification, and the cure rate is as high as 90%.
