[Chinese Medicine] learning experience(51) Long Dan Xie Gan Decoction
The notes I compiled are based on the textbook "Prescriptions" of the University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and some prescriptions that I think are good. The prescriptions written are all my personal experience, and the analysis methods are mainly based on the six meridians and the viscera. I am not a medical professional, studying medicine is purely a hobby. It is normal if there are mistakes in the text.

[Usage] Decoction in water; can also be made into pills, 6~9g per serving, twice a day, and given with warm water.

【Function】clearing liver and gallbladder excess fire, clearing damp-heat in Liver Meridian.

【Indications】

1. Syndrome of excessive fire in the liver and gallbladder. Headache, red eyes, hypochondriac pain, bitter mouth, deafness, ear swelling, red tongue with yellow coating, strong pulse.

2. Liver Meridian Damp-Heat Injection Syndrome. Swelling and itching of the genitals, tendon flaccidity and sweating, turbid urine, or yellow and smelly vaginal discharge in women, red tongue with yellow greasy coating, and strong pulse.

This syndrome is caused by inflammation of the liver and gallbladder excess fire or damp-heat betting of the liver meridian. In the prescription, gentian grass can clear excess fire and damp heat; Scutellaria baicalensis enters the liver and can clear damp heat;

Liver fire is often related to liver dryness, clearing fire blindly is not the solution, so angelica and raw land are used to nourish blood and nourish yin to cure dryness. There is no way out for the liver and gallbladder, so use Akebia, Alisma, and Plantago to clear away heat and diuresis, so that damp-heat and fire evil will come out from the urine. Many books say that the function of Bupleurum is to soothe the liver, but I personally think it is wrong. Liver dryness is inherently ischemic, so using Bupleurum to soothe the liver would not even rob the liver yin? Therefore, the function of Bupleurum is to introduce medicine into the liver, so large doses cannot be used. There are three functions of licorice: one is to protect the spleen and stomach, prevent the spleen from suffering from bitter cold;

It has been proved by history that this prescription is not as effective in treating liver and gallbladder excess fire syndrome as it is in treating liver meridian damp-heat syndrome. "Lingshu Meridian" says: "The pulse of the liver-foot-jueyin...follows the femoral yin, enters the hair, passes through the genitals, and reaches the lower abdomen..." Both male and female genitals are governed by the liver meridian. Therefore, all diseases in andrology and gynecology, where the pathogenesis is caused by dampness and heat, can be considered to be treated with this prescription.

In the original book, the prescription does not indicate the dosage, and the dosage written above is the recommended dosage after the clinical summary of the doctors of the past dynasties.
