[Chinese Medicine] learning experience (81) Siwu Decoction
The notes I compiled are based on the textbook "Prescriptions" of the University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and some prescriptions that I think are good. The prescriptions written are all my personal experience, and the analysis methods are mainly based on the six meridians and the viscera. I am not a medical professional, studying medicine is purely a hobby. It is normal if there are mistakes in the text.

[category] blood tonic

【Composition】White peony root (9g), Angelica (9g), Rehmannia glutinosa (12g), Chuanxiong (6g)

[Usage] Three qian per serving, half a cup of water, decoct to 70% and take it hot (modern usage: decoct in water).

[Function] Enrich blood and blood.

【Indications】Syndrome of stagnant blood deficiency. Dizziness, palpitations, insomnia, dull complexion, or women with irregular menstruation, less quantity or amenorrhea, pain in the navel and abdomen, pale tongue, thready or thready pulse.

This prescription was first seen in the late Tang Dynasty "Secret Prescription for Treating Injury and Diarrhea", and later published in "Taiping Huimin Hejiju Prescription" in the Song Dynasty. The reputation of the first party in gynecology. Zhang Bingcheng said: "All blood-enriching prescriptions should be transformed from these four things."

Zhu Danxi said: "Yang is always surplus, and Yin is always insufficient." To replenish blood is more difficult than to replenish qi, because qi is easy to generate but blood is difficult to generate, blood deficiency can only be replenished slowly, and there must be no rush.

The blood tonic does not separate from the liver, spleen and kidney. Therefore, in the prescription, rehmannia glutinosa nourishes kidney yin, allowing kidney yin to dissolve blood; angelica and white peony nourish liver blood; Chuanxiong activates blood and promotes qi to prevent blood stagnation.

The medicine Chuanxiong is now considered to be a blood-activating medicine, and its blood-enriching effect is rarely mentioned. But the ancients believed that its main function is to nourish blood, followed by promoting qi and promoting blood circulation (refer to "Compendium of Materia Medica"). Based on the attitude of neither being superstitious nor criticizing the ancients, we believe that Rhizoma Chuanxiong has three functions of nourishing blood, promoting blood circulation and promoting qi, and the rankings are in no particular order.

Ligusticum chuanxiong has the function of raising hair, its image is spring, and it has the woody virtue of Yuan.

Angelica has the power of publicity, its image is summer, and it has the fire virtue of prosperity.

Radix Paeoniae Alba has the power of restraining and descending, and its image is autumn, which has the golden virtue of benefit.

Rehmannia glutinosa has the function of closing storage, its image is winter, and it has the water virtue of chastity.

This is the way of heaven.
