[Chinese Medicine] Mao Mao’s learning experience in reading prescriptions (61) Gegen Huangqin Huanglian Decoction
The notes I compiled are based on the textbook "Prescriptions" of the University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and some prescriptions that I think are good. The prescriptions written are all my personal experience, and the analysis methods are mainly based on the six meridians and the viscera. I am not a medical professional, studying medicine is purely a hobby. It is normal if there are mistakes in the text.

[category] internal and external double solution agent

【Composition】Half catty of kudzu root (15g), 2 liang of roasted licorice (6g), 3 liang of Scutellaria baicalensis (9g), 3 liang of Coptis chinensis (9g)

【Usage】Using four flavors, take eight liters of water, first boil kudzu root, then subtract two liters, boil two liters of the internal medicines, remove the water, divide the temperature before serving (modern usage: decoct in water).

【Function】Relieves the surface and clears the interior.

[Indications] Unresolved exterior syndrome, pathogenic heat entering interior syndrome. Body heat, lower body odor, dysphoria in the chest and abdomen, dry mouth and thirst, or sweating due to panting, red tongue with yellow coating, rapid or rapid pulse.

Gegen Qinlian Decoction has been praised too much by people, saying that it is a method of pulling a boat against the current, from the outside to the inside, and from the inside to the outside. Shall we use our brains? The human body has always been based on the principle of proximity, and the evil energy has entered, why is it not excreted by the intestines? It must be countercurrent from the inside to the half outside and half inside, and then from the half outside and half inside to the outside, and then excreted from the body. Isn't this taking off your pants and farting? If evil qi can come out from the inside, can the external evidence also be artificially made to enter the inside and then be discharged from the intestines? Yu Jiayan is a famous doctor, so what he said must be right? Li Dongyuan also patched Zhang Zhongjing, and Zhang Jingyue patched Zhu Danxi.

First of all, it can be judged according to the symptoms of the indications that this prescription is for damp heat in the interior, and there is no doubt about Yangming disease. Yangming disease needs to be treated with the lower method, how can the sweat method be used? Therefore, the function of kudzu root cannot be to promote body fluid, from the inside to the outside, that is all nonsense. Based on Zhang Zhongjing's medication habits, why not use ephedra to relieve the form? Why does no one use the method of pulling a boat against the current for cold diarrhea caused by wind-cold syndrome entering the interior?

Radix Puerariae, Gan Xinping. In ancient times, some people used a catty (16 taels) of kudzu root boiled in water to treat convulsions; Gegen decoction, Guizhi plus kudzu root soup have the effect of treating "how strong is the neck and back";

The pathogenesis of convulsions can be either cold, heat, or deficiency. Scutellaria baicalensis and Coptis chinensis both clear away dampness and heat, so the pathogenesis of this prescription is that dampness and heat pour into the large intestine, causing intestinal spasm, and intestinal spasm causes abnormal absorption of water, which leads to diarrhea. So use kudzu root to relieve spasm, and licorice to relieve the spasm.

Why does this prescription belong to the internal and external double solution? Because the patient may be suffering from superficial syndrome, and the damp-heat bet caused by mistreatment and wrong treatment, the superficial part may not be free of evil energy. In this way, the efficiency of using kudzu root is high, and it can play the role of taking care of both the outside and the inside, and dividing up and down.

Why does the syndrome cause intestinal lesions? Because the lung dominates the skin and hair, and the lung and the large intestine are on the outside and inside. If the lungs want to expel pathogens, they can expel them through the skin, nasal orifices, or the large intestine. This is evidenced by diarrhea after taking some cough medicines.

In addition, kudzu root also has the effect of promoting clear yang, scutellaria baicalensis and berberine have the effect of reducing turbid yin, and licorice has the effect of regulating the center of the spleen and stomach. This prescription is also very effective for diarrhea in which clear yang does not rise and turbid yin does not descend.
