According to the survey conducted by the Liver Disease Prevention and Control Foundation, the carrier rates of hepatitis B and C among Chinese people are 18.2% and 4.4% respectively, but 50% of the carriers of liver B and nearly 90% of the carriers of liver C do not know their own have hepatitis.
This survey is based on the data obtained from more than 92,000 person-time visits by the Liver Disease Prevention Foundation. It was found that the rate of hepatitis B infection is as high as 18.2%, which is one of the highest in the world. The infection rate of liver C is also catching up.
According to the Liver Disease Prevention and Control Foundation, liver disease is the most serious local disease in Taiwan. Over the years, liver cancer has been the number one cause of male cancer death in China. Among the more than 10,000 people who die of liver disease every year, about 80% are caused by hepatitis B. 10% is caused by hepatitis C.
The rate of liver cancer among hepatitis B carriers is about 150 times that of non-carriers. Experts suggest that carriers should have the concept of regular health monitoring to avoid the trilogy of hepatitis, cirrhosis and liver cancer.
