Moxibustion treatment for frozen shoulder
Last week we introduced the moxibustion therapy for neck and shoulder pain. When replying to the message, I saw many friends said that they had frozen shoulder and wanted to use the moxibustion method we talked about last week. There is a difference between shoulder pain and frozen shoulder. Neck and shoulder pain is caused by carelessness in life, and it can happen to people of all ages. The age of onset of frozen shoulder is mostly around 50 years old, and young people get frozen shoulder. Examples are few. So today we will introduce the moxibustion method for frozen shoulder.

Frozen shoulder is periarthritis of the shoulder. It is an extensive and degenerative lesion that occurs in the shoulder joint capsule and its surrounding ligaments, tendons, and synovial bursa. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that when a person is over fifty, the righteousness will gradually lose, the nutrition and defense will be out of balance, the yang will be weak, the liver and kidney will be deficient, and the qi and blood will be weak, so that the tendons and muscles will lose their nourishment. Such as encountering wind-damp-cold pathogenic invasion, block meridians, qi and blood circulation is not smooth, venation is obstructed, so the primary disease occurs, or prolonged illness with deficiency of qi and blood, disproportionate and painful.

Pain around the shoulder joint and dysfunction of the shoulder joint are the main clinical manifestations of frozen shoulder. In the later stage, joint muscle atrophy seriously affects the quality of life and work of patients. "Su Wen Bi Lun" said: "For all numbness and the like, when it is cold, it will cause insects, and when it is hot, it will follow." The principle of moxibustion treatment is to increase the local temperature, so that the meridians and collaterals are unblocked, and the Qi and blood are unblocked, so as to achieve For the purposes of warming the meridians and dispelling cold, activating collaterals and relieving pain, the shorter the course of the disease, the better the curative effect;

For frozen shoulder moxibustion, you can choose the following points:

Shoulder (yú)

On the shoulder, on the deltoid, when the arm is abducted, or flattened forward, in the depression anteriorly and inferiorly to the acromion. It has the effect of dredging the meridians and activating collaterals and evacuating wind-heat, and is a commonly used point for shoulder diseases.

shoulder (liáo)

On the shoulder, posterior to the scapula, when the arm is abducted, a depression appears posterior and inferior to the acromion. Indications for urticaria, shoulder periarthritis, cerebrovascular sequelae, intercostal neuralgia, etc.

Shoulder point

On the lower back of the shoulder joint, 1 cun above the head of the posterior axillary crease when the arm is adducted. It can dredge the meridian and activate the collaterals, and it is mainly used for the treatment of scapular pain, arm rest, upper limb numbness, tinnitus and periarthritis of the shoulder and other diseases.

Yanglingquan

On the outside of the calf, in the depression anteriorly and inferiorly to the head of the fibula. Yanglingquan is a commonly used acupoint for tendon injury diseases. In addition, it has a good effect on gallbladder disease, and has the effect of reducing inflammation and promoting gallbladder.

strip mouth

On the anterolateral side of the calf, 8 cun below the nose of the calf, one finger transverse from the front edge of the tibia. Tiaokou point is an effective point for treating frozen shoulder.

Operation method:

Take a sitting position, relax the whole body, use moxa sticks for gentle moxibustion on the above points, or use a moxibustion box; use a single-hole moxibustion box with cut moxa sticks for gentle moxibustion, each point takes about 10 minutes, 5 days a course of treatment, with intervals in between 2 days, a total of 2 courses of treatment.

In the treatment of periarthritis of the shoulder, the "Three Shoulder Needles" (Jianlian, Jianzhen, Jianliao) are used to select acupoints for near treatment; Yanglingquan, also known as Jinhui, is used to select acupoints for distant treatment; Tiaokou is also used for treatment The effect point of periarthritis of the shoulder can unblock the yangming meridian qi, dispel evil qi, promote blood circulation and collaterals, and relieve pain.

Moxibustion acts on acupoints, which can not only warm and unblock, but also warm and tonify. Warming Tong means that the thermal stimulation of moxibustion acts on a specific part of the human body, resulting in the effect and effect of the smooth circulation of human Qi and blood; while warming is the warm stimulation of moxibustion to generate nourishing human Qi and blood and improve its function. Functional effects and roles. The two complement each other in function, so that the effective rate of moxibustion treatment of frozen shoulder can be improved. Thermal stimulation involves not only the superficial layer, but also the deep layer, which can cause local skin hyperemia, capillary expansion, enhance local blood circulation and lymphatic circulation, relieve and eliminate smooth muscle spasm, enhance the metabolism of local skin tissue, and promote the dissipation of pathological products absorb.

Frozen shoulder is a kind of aseptic inflammation. It is an extensive and degenerative disease that occurs in the shoulder joint capsule and its surrounding ligaments, tendons, and synovial bursa. It is mostly painful at the beginning, and adhesions will occur over time. In the case of muscle atrophy, moxibustion is better for mild pain or adhesions. When the adhesions are severe, other methods should be used to loosen the adhesions, and then moxibustion can help recovery.

In addition, moxibustion can also be used together with functional exercises to treat frozen shoulder:
experience sharing
Acupoint selection along the meridian, ginger-partitioned moxibustion, to disperse cold and dredge collaterals, promote blood circulation and relax tendons, acupoint selection: Jianzhen, Jianjing, tenderness points in front of the shoulder.

Specific treatment method: Each time, fresh ginger slices with a thickness of 0.2~0.3 cm are pricked with several holes in the middle, and placed on the moxibustion points, and then the moxa sticks are lit on the ginger slices for moxibustion. When the moxa sticks are burned out, replace them again. Apply moxibustion on sticks, finish moxibustion for the specified number of strong points, so that the skin is ruddy without blistering, moxibustion at each point is 3~5 strong, and the above treatment is performed once a day, and 10 times is a course of treatment.

During the treatment period, the patients are instructed to perform functional exercises, through which the muscles of the shoulders and upper limbs can be exercised to enhance the adaptability of the joints and increase the range of motion of the shoulder joints. The initial range should be small and step by step to avoid damage caused by excessive exercise. Including climbing the wall to touch heights, drawing circles, pulling the affected hand with the healthy hand, bending over and shaking the shoulders, external rotation, combing the hair, stretching back and touching the back, anti-gravity exercises, etc., which can be selected selectively. And pay attention to the quality and activity intensity, and do it under the condition that the pain can be tolerated, so as to prevent muscle strain and aggravate the condition.

Moxibustion mainly uses the mild heat of moxa fire to expand the capillaries in the treatment area, improve microcirculation, and accelerate the blood and lymphatic circulation in the acupoint area. ribs. Moxibustion combined with functional exercise can dredge the meridians, regulate qi and blood, promote degeneration and repair of contracture tissue, fully stretch the contracture tissue, further eliminate joint adhesion, and restore the normal function of the shoulder joint.
