Get out of depression and learn to fight diabetes
Unhealthy diet, work and rest lay hidden dangers for misfortune
As a primary school teacher, I have always been very busy at work. According to a sample survey, the average actual working hours of primary and secondary school teachers per week is 54.5 hours. I am considered an ordinary member of the group. I prepare lessons, correct homework, and evaluate teaching every day. When managing students, time often passes by unconsciously.

Staying up late has become a daily routine, and I have irregular diet. I have suffered from stomach problems many times and for a long time, and I am also overweight, which lays the foundation for future misfortunes.

Continuous bad news: diagnosed with diabetes
During the sugar screening test at 24 weeks of pregnancy, the fasting blood sugar was found to be 5.8mmol/L. I was told that the blood sugar was high and it was recommended that I be hospitalized for examination. At first, I didn’t know what high blood sugar meant. I just cooperated with the doctor’s treatment and strictly controlled my diet. My blood sugar was monitored 7 times a day. From then on, I became a “high-risk mother”.

During the entire pregnancy, my diet was very strict. I didn’t eat much fruit. I ate the most cucumbers and tomatoes. The snacks disappeared. Even so, my blood sugar was still high, and I was resistant to insulin injections. As a result, my baby was tested after birth. The blood sugar was on the low side. When the blood sugar dropped to 2.4mmol/L, the doctor asked my husband to go through the hospitalization procedures. The baby who was just 2 hours old was admitted to the NICU, even before I had time to take a second look.

It should be that the baby is relatively strong and was born at full term. Three days later, as a first-time mother, I truly met my angel. Responsible emotions such as happiness, guilt, responsibility, etc. burst out with tears.

Misfortune never comes singly, the blood sugar did not recover after delivery, and after multiple examinations, she was diagnosed with diabetes.

Kidnapped by depression, life plunges into darkness
From the time I was diagnosed with high blood sugar to the diagnosis of diabetes, for nearly a year, I thought with a sense of luck that "gestational diabetes can return to normal with a high probability", but the cruel facts shattered my last fantasy.

The whole person became depressed. Because of his own reasons, he almost harmed his child. How will a sick person face students and work in the future? People become sensitive and fragile, often shed tears, and feel trapped in darkness. The more they struggle, the deeper they fall. They cannot see the light or the direction. I really want to live my life without struggling in pain.

The company of my family rescued me from the darkness
Thanks to my husband, my parents-in-law, and my parents for always accompanying me and protecting me when I was kidnapped by depression. The warmth of family affection made the darkness no longer cold.

The baby is also growing up healthily, snuggled in my arms, and his little hands can now try to grab things in front of him. When his fleshy, soft, and warm little hands took the initiative to grab my hand for the first time, I suddenly understood, I want to accompany her growth, participate in her joys and sorrows, and be her strong back. I can no longer be depressed like this. The baby's little hands rescue me from the darkness.

Get over depression and learn to fight diabetes
1. Keep monitoring blood sugar

Since I got out of depression, when my blood sugar was initially unstable, I monitored my blood sugar 7 times a day, on an empty stomach, before meals, after meals, and before going to bed. I understood my blood sugar fluctuation trend and constantly urged myself to pay attention to blood sugar changes and control my blood sugar later in life. It's very good. Now I randomly monitor it 2-3 times a week, mainly monitoring fasting blood sugar (testing blood sugar according to my actual situation, I mainly fail to meet the fasting standard).

2. Eat more light meals and eat less staple food

Say goodbye to refined and processed food, eat less salt and less oil, eat more vegetables, less staple food, and ensure a fixed calorie intake every day.

It is recommended that you make some multi-grain staple food at home (as shown below), eat more at home and eat out less.

3. Make sure to exercise for 30-40 minutes every day

After eating every day, I choose to walk, jog for a while, go up and down the stairs (the floor should not be too high), take the stairs, sign up for classes and learn swimming, and ensure that I exercise for 30-40 minutes every day, and maintain it more than 5 days a week. Exercise, enhance physical fitness, consume excess "sugar" and improve insulin sensitivity.

4. Take medicine on time and cooperate with treatment

Take medicine on time, cooperate with treatment, go to the hospital regularly for relevant examinations, do not stop or change medicines at will, pay attention to complications, and don't let complications secretly take away your health.

5. Stay with family and friends and stay in a good mood

Be grateful for the company of your family and friends, communicate more, maintain a cheerful and positive mood, and have the courage to say no to negative emotions.

6. Learn more about diabetes and know yourself and your enemies.

Learning is very important and is also my strength. The way to learn is through the headlines of Diabetes Network.

Start by understanding diabetes, and gradually learn how to control blood sugar, how to test blood sugar, and how to live peacefully with diabetes.

The above 6 points are my summary of the past 3 years. Currently, my blood sugar control is very stable, and my daily routine, diet, and exercise are much healthier. My weight has dropped to within the standard, my stomach problems have improved a lot, and my body has become healthier than before. , more energetic, and the baby is particularly healthy and cheerful, sticking to my side every day.

Diabetes has not changed the ability to pursue a happy life. I hope that my experience can help more people with diabetes come out of the shadows and live a colorful life.
