[Chinese Medicine] Mao Mao's learning experience in reading prescriptions (34) Dayuan Drink
The notes I compiled are based on the textbook "Prescriptions" of the University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and some prescriptions that I think are good. The prescriptions written are all my personal experience, and the analysis methods are mainly based on the six meridians and the viscera. I am not a medical professional, studying medicine is purely a hobby. It is normal if there are mistakes in the text.

(34) Dayuan drink

[Source] "On Epidemic Epidemics"

【Category】Double antidote (controversial)

[Composition] Betel nut 2 qian (6g), Magnolia officinalis 1 qian (3g), Cao Guoren 5 fen (1.5g), Anemarrhena 1 qian (3g), Scutellaria baicalensis 1 qian (3g), licorice 5 fen (1.5g), peony 1 qian (3g)

[Usage] Take two cups of water, decoct for eight minutes, and take warm in the afternoon (modern usage: decoct in water).

[Function] Open up the original film, eliminate filth and transform turbidity.

[Indications] febrile epidemic or malaria, the original syndrome of evil phlegm. Aversion to cold and strong heat, or three times a day, or once a day, irregular hair, chest tightness, nausea, headache, irritability, red tongue, tongue coating greasy, or powdery, stringy pulse.

This prescription can be seen from the composition to cure dampness. Use betel nut, magnolia officinalis, and grass fruit to dispel cold and dampness, and combine with Zhimu and scutellaria baicalensis to clear away heat. It is combined with white peony to nourish yin and diuresis, and licorice to nourish the middle and Qi. It belongs to the prescription of both cold and heat, clearing and tonic.

To use this prescription clinically, we must first understand what is "membrane"? "Membrane" is not in the viscera inside, and not in the meridians outside. Housed within the Jiaji, not far from the outside, close to the stomach, is the boundary between the outside and the inside, belonging to half the outside and half the inside, and is closely related to the triple burner.

Membrane can be attacked by various evils such as epidemic qi, dampness, summer heat, heat, and cold, so the clinical symptoms are complicated and varied. Common symptoms such as fever, chest fullness, or alternating cold and heat are called the original syndrome of evil hidden membrane.

The most common symptom of the original syndrome of evil volt membrane is thick and greasy tongue coating, which looks like accumulated powder. Those who are colder have white fur, and those who are hotter have yellow fur. Because it is mainly caused by dampness, the appetite is often poor (dampness traps the spleen), and the main method of treatment should be aromatization and turbidity.

This syndrome should be differentiated from superficial syndrome clinically. The superficial syndromes, whether wind-cold or wind-heat, are all caused by exogenous pathogenic factors, so there may not necessarily be internal manifestations of damp epidemic injury. Patients with epidemic evil usually have a filthy complexion, irritability, and palpitations. Moreover, the floating pulse must be seen in the superficial syndrome, but the disease location of the epidemic disease is neither on the surface nor in the inside, so the two floating and sinking pulses are not seen. Epidemic evil blocks the movement of qi, so the pulse is stringy, and there are symptoms of abnormal rise and fall of the movement of qi.

In addition, there is no way out for the epidemic evil lying in the half surface and half inside. My personal experience is to let the evil spirit go away, so I usually add a small amount of medicine for the two. If the ups and downs of qi movement are abnormally serious, the dose of qi regulating medicine can be increased, such as bupleurum and tangerine peel. You can also use the method of refreshing the spleen, adding woody incense, amomum, etc.
